I think last night was the first ever time I've really started to appreciate what L4D is actually all about.
The way we all worked together as one was at times just amazing, and although I've had similar experiences playing with other guys in GRAW 2 and SWAT 4 there's a distinctive bond between players when playing L4D together inparticular. With the odds and danger so much higher than anything else we've played together. Covering your own ass and those of your comrades like never before. Making the whole experience a concentrated but oh so meticulously planned thrill ride of a game from mission to mission.
I mean you know when you've gone through the tread mill in L4D and come out the other end all alive you've all done your bit to make it happen. And that it involved every decision made, every shot fired, every item used or shared and every enemy taken down to be done as one and not just as completely seperate players.
Some of those moments spent taking down the horde almost start to play out in slow motion for me, feeling like they will never end. And I'm so caught up in the moment popping heads from all directions and watching my fellow comrades doing the same - it's a beautiful thing to see in motion and to be an important part of.
And I'm always the guy holding up the rear, because after a while you start to learn just how the editor works. Throwing in curve balls just when you think everything is finally safe and serene. I'm the guy who will keep going back checking a corridor or watching that closed door or just keeping the corner of my eye fixed firmly on an area where nobody else is looking. Sometimes I admit it's to my peril as I can be caught out by the odd smoker or hunter. Meaning my guys have to jump in and drag me out of there. But more often than not my "something is coming that way I know it" tactics work pretty well.
Christ, will you listen to me? Hard to believe this is all coming from the same guy who had ignored L4D for far too long and slammed it as a lackluster mod refusing to buy it for weeks on end.

Aye I am so pleased you have seen the light - when you were so dismissive initially I couldn't credit it coming from you, who loves the co-op mechanic just as much as I do, I just couldn't understand it
Mantis, as regards the music, it is to purify the whole experience. That little audio cue that alerts you to the incoming horde, giving you time to scramble to relative safety - well I want to lose that safety net. I want the horde to swarm out of the darkness unannounced, the shityapantsness of that would make up for any detriment such as the tank announcement. Again, even that, I think would benefit. Headphones on, nervous chatter between the companions as they creep through the darkness. And then that roar...

I think the director was on it's monthly or something today, it did nothing but give us constant grief all damn day and there was blood absoloutely everywhere! >_>

It wasn't too bad. At least it didn't throw 2 tanks at us per level like the last NM expert run through I did.

Playing CoD 5 I can't help but keep pressing the damn f button whenever I'm in a darkened area. Doh.
Anyway, must cut down on playing this somewhat. 27 hours played in less than 2 weeks isn't very healthy, although I'm damned sure some of you out there play even more than I do. Ahem Paul! >_>

Players can no longer grab ladders while flying through the air after a Tank punch

Fixed propane tanks (and other physics objects) causing players to fall through elevators
